Easy Recipe: French Toast Sticks

Hello! I woke up this morning and was very hungry. But, unfortunately, all we had in our pantry was a loaf of un-inspiring, slightly stale, white bread. So then that little tiny cooking lightbulb turned on… french toast sticks. Little bites of cinnamon deliciousness! These little-tiny-cinnamon-deliciousness-bites are simple, made up of 8 basic ingredients.

  • Bread
  • Eggs
  • Cinnamon
  • Cardamom (this optional… but…)
  • Milk
  • Vanilla
  • Butter
  • Granulated sugar
Are you ready? Let’s cook:

15 Minute French Toast Sticks

Time: 15-20 minutes
Difficulty: easy
Yield: 16-24 sticks

Ingredients
  • 3-4 slices of white bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4-5 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Butter, for greasing

To make:

  1. Preheat your pan to medium-high and melt a little bit of butter in the pan.
  2. Whisk together sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon (you can also add a little 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom for extra flavour).
  3. Slice the bread into 1 inch strips.
  4. Whisk together eggs, remaining cinnamon, cardamom, milk, and vanilla, until well blended in a shallow bowl, such as a pie plate.
  5. Coat both sides of each bread-stick in the egg mixture. Avoid dry spots
  6. Fry for 5-7 minutes per side, until well browned.
  7. Coat the sticks in the cinnamon sugar.
  8. Enjoy!

Enjoy! These are a great crowd pleaser, and you could even make a double batch! You could also top these with powdered sugar, maple syrup or jam, though they’re great alone too.

The Flakiest Pie Crust

Many people have many opinions on pie crust. Some live by all butter, some are half shortening and half butter. Some are jut shortening. Today, I’ll be sharing with you my grandma’s pie crust recipe—and my personal favourite. This crust is all shortening—all Crisco shortening to be exact, and very flakey. It’s also very simple, you probably have all the ingredients in your house right now.
